Free Peter Pan Quote Cut File

Happy belated New Year, everyone! Are you a new year goal maker, or do you prefer to make goals on your own timing? I try and analyze how I’m doing and make new goals several times a year, but the new year holds a special place in my mind for really finding ways to improve and progress.

Especially this year. As alluded to in previous posts, 2017 was like living on the sea with no direction – just bobbing around, never settled to the ground, not really sure when storms might come and settle. We are originally from Utah, but spent the first eight months in Alabama acclimating to a completely different culture. We moved back to Utah, lived in my parents’ basement for four months while we had a baby born with Down Syndrome and our oldest started kindergarten, and right after Christmas moved into our newly built house! There’s lots of settling down and home-making to do, and you’ll be seeing lots of that appearing here over the next year. Plan on seeing not only sewing projects, but kids crafts, tips on raising boys, woodworking, and decor projects. The goal is to post every Wednesday, so look forward to plenty of inspiration!

On that note, have you heard this quote from Peter Pan before? “To live will be an awfully big adventure!”* A friend of mine has this quote in her son’s nursery, and when I saw it I knew Mr. L needed it in his nursery as well. Something about him having Down Syndrome makes me realize how precious life really is, and that life really will be an adventure for this little boy!

* Side note, there are several variations of this quote. This particular one is from both Hook and the 2003 Peter Pan motion picture. However in the original version of the book by J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan says “To die will be an awfully big adventure.” If you’re interested in learning more about this subject, I found this paper highly fascinating!

Last month I was finally able to turn this quote into something I could hang on Mr. L’s wall. I don’t own any cutting tools myself, but I’ve been eying the Silhouette Cameo for the last few years. As part of a craft night, my friends and I got together and made wood signs using this coveted Silhouette Cameo (thank you so much Rachel for letting us use it!).

Rachel had on hand two already stained 12″x12″ wooden panels. I connected these together by gluing another slab of wood across the back of both. While the glue dried enough to work with the wood, I worked on creating the design for my creation in Silhouette Studio. Fun fact: the software is free! So if you know someone with a Cameo, you can design all you want on your own, then actually do the cutting at their place. Not that that’s what I’m planning on doing… heh heh…

I wanted paint as a medium for this work. It took more time than it would have if I just stuck with vinyl, but I like the look. To do this I cut out a 12″x24″ piece of vinyl, and instead of placing the letters I used the larger cut piece as a stencil for the paint. If you expand the image and look really close you can see where the paint bled. I scraped the biggest bleeds off once it dried, and now you can hardly tell it’s there from far away.

I had to share the blanket my aunt made Mr. L. He’s got a serious lion theme going on – there’s at least three stuffed lions still packed somewhere in our house that we’ve been gifted.

Mr. L fell asleep in the middle of my photo shoot and actually stayed asleep when I laid him down. Isn’t he precious? We can’t get enough of him, that’s for sure!

I made this cut file available for download in STUDIO3, PNG, and SVG formats so no matter your cutting tool you should be able to recreate this.

Hope you enjoy it. I’d love to see any creations you make with it!
